A photo from the archives of the reoccurring social Friday night group ride, GJ Bike Night on the CMU campus as a mid-point gathering for riders. It is time to get back into the school season and shake off the week day grind with a relaxing ride with friends. Ride starts at 7pm at 6th and Rood Ave. All are welcome.
Next meeting will be on Sept 17th at 6:30pm, at Gemini Brewery

Bikewrights Clinics at the Sunshine Community (1321 Ute Ave), a public service for free bicycle repairs is every first Tuesday 3pm to 5pm, and Wednesdays 9am- 12pm. The are always looking for volunteer mechanics (maybe bring a work stand), and donations for parts (cables, cable housing, tubes, patch kits, grips, pedals, etc) and safety features such as tail lights, reflectors, and any reflective wearble items.
Bike Safety Fest- Fruita
AARP and Fruita Livability Commission & Trail Host have put together a Bike Safety Festival Aug 29th 10am to 1pm at Shelledy Elementary school, 353 N Mesa St. The new school year is starting up and it is time to learn some basics to help you commute safely and learn new routes. There will be a bike rodeo to guide riders of all ages through the basics of signaling, scanning and reading intersections. There will also be prizes to win, including gift cards to local bike shops. Bring your helmet and bike!
Mutant Bike Fest
Have you ever thought about making a weird bike just for the fun of it? This is the inaugural year for the Mutant Bike Fest on Oct 3rd! We will have all types of bikes of all shapes and wild designs. This will be a group ride of a minimum of 4 miles and end at the Lowell School (7th and Grand Ave) during Porchella. Sign up for email updates for the full details and meet up plans.
Bike Streets in the
Grand Valley
Thanks to your contributions to the bicycle data around town, there has been an extrapolation of "low-stress" streets found that could help connect routes for some people. Check out the live map on the Bike Streets site for more details on great alternative corridors. And remember, the more you track where you like to ride the better the data pile to help guide safe commuting!
Look for us at the Market on Main in downtown, Sept 3rd! We will be with RTPO (Regional Transportation Planning Office) doing bike rodeo, skills course, and
giving away maps and stickers! Come by and say hi!
Active Transportation Challenge
September 28th through October 4th is the Week Without Driving. Do you think you can go a whole 7 days without using your personal vehicle? With the public transit resources and encouragement to hop on your bike, we kindly challenge you to go a week without driving. Try it, see how long you can go, because maybe you could go longer than just a week! Share your stories and insights with us on the Grand Valley Community Forum on Facebook.
Grand Mesa Scenic Byway Survey
The Grand Mesa Scenic Byway is one of Colorado's federally designated Scenic and Historical Byways, and every ten years each byway updates its corridor management plan. The plan describes what make the byway special, what threatens those qualities and what opportunities exist to protect, enhance, and promote it. We're updating the Grand Mesa plan now, and a short survey is open to anyone who knows and uses the byway. It only takes about 10 mins.
The finished plan is an official document. CDOT, the Forest Service, counties, and grant funders will read it, and when someone seeks money or support for a trailhead, better signs, safety improvements, or promotion, this plan is what they point to. You don't need to live on the Mesa for this to matter. If you fish or camp up there, ski or snowmobile in the winter, drive HWY 65 every fall or run a business that depends on visitors, this survey is where your voice gets into the record. Survey closes Sept 1st.
